UFG`s 2nd Investor Trip to Russia
UFG Asset Management hosted its 2nd annual Investor Trip to Russia, May 25-27, 2011. The conference brought together leading experts on the Russian market, politicians, investors, think tanks, and both public and private UFG portfolio companies.
The discussions held on the first day of the conference were primarily concerned with matters pertaining to macroeconomics and the structure of Russia’s markets; additionally, the discussions focused on understanding the strategic challenges that Russia faces as a competitor in today’s global economy and its role in resolving these challenges.
The second day of the conference included presentations made by Russia’s premiere innovators (Skolkovo), entrepreneurs and several public companies, in addition to a summary presentation conducted by UFG’s Chief Investment Officer.
We believe that the format of the conference was just as important as its substance. The conference was conducted in a boutique style, limited to 25 participants brought together in a downtown Moscow hotel with satellite events at nearby restaurants. This was designed to create an intimate, educational environment, and encourage discourse between the audience and the presenters. The ultimate goal is to create sustainable, positive attitudes regarding Russian markets and assets in order to further encourage Russia’s economic success via increased levels of foreign investment.
Key speakers that presented at the conference included: Ambassador John Beyrle of the United States of America; Leonid Gozman, Member of the Board of Rusnano and Co-Chairman of the Right Cause Political Party, Anton Karamzin, Deputy Chairman of Sberbank Board of Directors, Eric Rasmussen from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (“EBRD”); Yaroslav Lissovolik, Chief Economist for Deutsche Bank Russia; Peter O`Brien, a senior executive of Rosneft Oil; and representatives of Russian public companies, such as Novatek, GlobalTrans and Uralkali. The agenda also featured presentations made by UFG Private Equity portfolio companies such as Brunswick Rail and Rising Star Media.
